Start with a herd you can feed, water where needed and collect from consistently. Before buying animals, draw up a routine for the building you intend to use and decide how it will fit around fieldwork.
The GIANTS goat lesson describes sheep housing, grass or hay feeding and goat milk. It distinguishes pastures requiring water delivery from barns without that manual task. Inspect the exact building in your save before assembling the care equipment.
Make the routine visible
Write down the jobs in the order you would perform them: inspect the animal menu, check supplies, deliver what is needed and handle the output. Walk each delivery route before placing more buildings. Reserve turning space and somewhere to put handling equipment when a trailer arrives.
For feed, choose a supply you can maintain during busy crop periods. Use the crop references and equipment catalogue to list any supporting work. Include the cost of bought feed when comparing it with the time and equipment required to produce your own.
Choose a milk destination separately. Inspect the product accepted by any production you intend to use and confirm delivery in game. A future processing plan should not consume the money you need for routine care now.
Measure your own requirements
Use a clearly defined observation period before increasing the herd. Record the building, animal count, ages, opening supplies, deliveries, closing supplies and output. Note births or sales during that period so that a change in herd size does not look like a change in consumption.
For example, take readings at the same point in consecutive in-game months. If you added feed between readings, include it in the record. Keep meadow supply and delivered feed observations distinct when the animal menu provides that information.
Use the result to set a reserve and the timing of your next delivery. A monthly observation is a starting estimate; repeat it after changes to the herd, building or mods. Expand only when the supporting jobs still fit your routine. This avoids committing to an annual feed quantity or milk income borrowed from a different setup.
